Thermochemistry

The chemistry of heat and heat-associated chemical phenomena.

A branch of physical chemistry concerned with the absorption or evolution of heat that accompanies chemical reactions. Closely related topics are the latent heat associated with a change in phase (solid, liquid, gas), and the chemical composition of reacting systems at equilibrium. Thermodynamics provides the link among these phenomena. I've chosen this section of Chemistry because it had such an impact to chemistry and other develpoments, and without it we wouldn't know many things about certain elements and chemical reactions.
